Forecast Discussion
An upper level trough, which appears inverted according to model runs, will continue to pull out this morning as a surface ridge of high pressure builds in from the west. As the high builds today, winds will increase allowing for high blowing snow which will reduce visibility significantly as ground blizzards continue. Northwesterly flow will continue the chance of upslope snow showers but the probability of snow will decrease in the afternoon as dry air begins to move in. Overnight, high pressure continues to build allowing for fog to clear and for skies above to clear with winds beginning a downward trend. Although the winds will be making a downward trend overnight, they will be shifting clockwise so blowing snow that settles in one direction will be kicked up once again from another direction. Tomorrow, as the high crests in, skies will remain mostly sunny and the summit fog free with dampening winds. With high winds mixing with the cold northwesterly flow, a wind chill advisory will remain in effect today through tomorrow morning. Wind chills will be 35-45 below today into this evening before rising to 25-35 below by sunrise and continuing an upward trend to 0-10 below by sunset tomorrow.
