Forecast Discussion

Ridging high pressure will keep the summits in the clear throughout the day today. Temperatures will begin to moderate and climb above the zero mark, but winds will remain relatively constant today and overnight as upper level flow will be fairly zonal. A low pressure center in Canada will spin a trough and cold front across the region tomorrow afternoon. The approaching clipper system will increase cloud cover throughout the day, and eventually engulf the summits with clouds overnight. This system is neither moisture rich nor moisture starved, and some snow and snow showers are expected on the summits, to begin tomorrow night. Temperatures will climb into the mid teens tomorrow as a result of some weak warm air advection, before dropping after the passage of the front. As is usual, after the passage of the cold front, winds will shift to the NW and usher in that cooler air. The trough will be quick to exit the region and snow should taper to showers towards evening. High pressure descending from Canada and low pressure that originated off the Jersey Shore traveling northeast off the shoreline will increase the pressure gradient and the winds for tomorrow towards evening. Freezing fog, snow and blowing snow will contribute to limited visibility above tree line overnight and tomorrow. Expect to see some blowing and drifting snow on the higher summits as winds strengthen tomorrow
