Forecast Discussion

A large complex storm system will dominate the forecast period. Overnight, snow quickly turned into freezing rain and was well on its way to becoming rain as the weaker of the two low pressure centers approached the region. This low will travel into the Canadian Maritimes, and there will be a lull in both winds and precipitation in the afternoon as the region will be sandwiched between the two low pressure centers. The primary low will continue its northward trek from the Mid Atlantic states, and bring with it another bout of precipitation. This time, beginning as rain on the higher summits, and changing over to freezing rain, ice pellets, and snow. The low will pass to the west, and that means warm temperatures will remain on the higher summits through tomorrow. As it travels northeastward, the low will sweep a strong cold front across the region, and temperatures will plummet into middle single digits below zero by tomorrow afternoon. Tomorrow, as winds shift to the NW and usher in that cold, dry Canadian air, wrap around moisture and upslope flow will continue snow and snow showers tomorrow. Especially since low level moisture will be the last to exit the area. High pressure building behind the front will increase winds starting tomorrow. With temperatures plunging into sub zero digits, and winds over hurricane force, a wind chill advisory will be in effect from 7 am tomorrow and through the rest of the day.
