Forecast Discussion
High pressure will continue to exit the northeast today as a low to our north near Hudson Bay moves east. A warm front tied to this low will cross the state today increasing clouds above, rising temperatures and bringing a slight chance of mixed precipitation types as it passes. Precipitation will be mixed because if anything falls, it will start as snow, then sleet and freezing rain, and then rain by days end. Summit should remain clear since so dry but there is a chance that the peaks may generate cap clouds or some fog as moisture moves in. Overnight, the cold front tied to the northern low will sweep through lowering temperatures once again and plunging the summits back into the clouds with mixed showers turning back to snow by sunrise. Tomorrow, the cold front exits as an area of low pressure moves up from the southwest along the frontal boundary poised to start Tuesday night. Winds today will be ramping up to the century mark as the gradient between the exiting high and approaching lows strengthens. Winds will remain high overnight before gradually decreasing tomorrow as the approaching low relaxes the gradient. Although the current snow packe was packed down fairly well with yesterdays winds, with winds shifting more west to southwesterly and with expected new snow, blowing snow will again be whipped up. But as things warm, the snow will slush a bit more keeping it from moving as easily. Wind chills today will be 0-10 above rising to 5-15 above by the evening before falling to 0-10 below by sunrise then falling further to end the day at 10-20 below tomorrow.
