Forecast Discussion

Low pressure will continue to depart towards the Canadian Maritimes as high pressure begins to build in today. The gradient between the high and low will strengthen this morning as the low deepens. This will generate high winds this morning but as the high continues to build, winds will begin a downward trend for the second half of the day. With ample residual low level moisture, upslope showers will continue this morning but towards the afternoon, showers will diminish and the fog will begin breaking up as drier air tied to the building high will dry things out. Overnight, the high crests in and winds will continue to dampen as skies clear out. Towards morning, clouds will once again be on the increase as the high pressure will slide east as a weak cold front approaches from the west. The low associated with the cold front will be north around the Hudson Bay. With the main energy so far north, the only chance for snow showers will be higher terrain and mostly overnight with just a chance of mixed showers in the afternoon as temperatures rise. But the key to this set up is a fairly strong low north with a developing low southwest and a high to the east setting up a tight gradient between them. This will ramp winds up tomorrow with the century mark being tapped or possibly even sustained at by tomorrow afternoon. Although winds will be high tomorrow, temperatures will be improving so wind chills will not meet advisory criteria. Therefore a wind chill advisory currently in place will expire this afternoon as wind chills improve. Wind chills today will start 35-45 below rising to 20-30 below this afternoon continuing to rise to 0-10 below tomorrow morning and ending the day 0-10 above. The high winds today and tomorrow afternoon will whip around all the new snow generating blowing snow which will cause low visibility.
