Forecast Discussion
Low pressure will be trekking across the state today sliding off shore this afternoon then migrating north overnight into tomorrow. This will continue a steady stream of snow today before becoming more showery in the evening as the low begins to slowly depart. Snow, for the first half of the day, may be heavy at times. A heavy snow warning is in place for the entire state as NWS is foreseeing snow accrual rates meeting this criteria. This is most certainly true for lower elevations of 4000 feet and lower. For higher terrain, snowfall rates may be a bit lower as moisture will be more low level. This is currently being picked up on the radar as shower activity tends to be heavier south of the White Mountains where the storm is butting up to first putting the northern areas in a snow shadow and the peaks acting as the middle of the road. Snow will be a drier form of snow this morning but as the low passes this afternoon, it will become a bit denser as a coastal influence is picked up. Winds will dip today as the center of the low passes but as the low departs overnight into tomorrow, winds will begin to increase tipping the century mark by tomorrow morning. As the winds become more northwestly overnight, upslope flow will bring additional snow accumulations. As high pressure builds in behind the low, winds will slowly begin to trend downward and drier air in the afternoon tomorrow will break up the clouds on as well as above the summit. With the high winds, ground blizzards will be whipped up making for some low visibilities today through tomorrow. Wind chills will also be lowering which will allow us to issue a wind chill advisory to go into effect from this evening through tomorrow afternoon. Wind chills today will be 20-30 below rising to 10-20 below before falling to 40-50 below by sunrise tomorrow rebounding later tomorrow to 20-30 below.
