Forecast Discussion

A ridge of high pressure will crest this morning then begin to slide off shore today. This will allow for mostly clear skies this morning with warming temperatures as the flow shifts to a more southwesterly direction. Clouds will be on the increase and lowering this afternoon into the evening as an area of low pressure approaches from the west. The center of the low is expected to move just north of the Great Lakes, pass the summit, then slide off shore tomorrow. As is moves closer, clouds will lower enough to envelope the summit back into clouds. Snow is expected to start around midnight with just a chance this evening. Snow will continue through the night into tomorrow as the low passes and redevelops offshore. As the frontal band passes, snow may be heavy at times. Although NWS has issued a heavy snow warning for NH, odds are the summit will not meet this criteria but will keep the warning since lower terrain will meet proper criteria. Winds over the forecast period will be trending upward with the exception of tomorrow midday when the center of the low passes. Snow will be whipped up as winds increase and shift this afternoon into tomorrow. As a result, blowing snow will generate ground blizzards at times above tree line. Although winds will be increasing, so will the temperatures. In fact, temperatures are much high than model output statistics this morning. Therefore have adjusted accordingly. With increased temperatures and reduced winds, the wind chill advisory from yesterday will be cancelled since wind chills will remain above 30 below for the most part. Wind chills will be 25-35 below today rising to 20-30 below overnight then rising to 10-20 below by days end tomorrow.
