Forecast Discussion

High pressure will slide off to the east today and a strong area of low pressure will approach from the southwest. Clouds will begin to thicken and lower with light snow developing early today. As the day progresses and the storm gets closer snow will become heavy at times this evening and overnight and visibility will become very poor especially above treeline. There are still some model differences at this time with regards to the exact track of the storm. All solutions still result in an all snow event on the higher summits. The only differences at this point continue to snowfall totals. Regardless of which model is used, all indicators point to a significant snow fall. Winds for the first part of the storm will be light by Mount Washington standards and this should allow the snow to accumulate nicely. As the low pulls away tomorrow a cold front will sweep through the region late in the day which will cause temperatures to plummet and winds speeds to pick up. There will be plenty of snow on the ground for the winds to blow around and visibility will remain poor with whiteout conditions.
