Forecast Discussion

As high pressure builds in this morning, a west-northwesterly flow will continue to pour cold air in. But as the high crests and slides more East, winds will begin to shift more westerly and the arctic air will be cut off. Temperatures will slowly begin to increase through tomorrow as the flow continues to shift to a more southwesterly direction into tomorrow. The northwesterly flow will bring about a chance of upslope snow showers early today but as winds shift, the likelihood for these will also continue to dampen. Overnight, some drier air may work in briefly before low level moisture works back in from the southwest returning fog. Tomorrow, a weak Great Lakes Clipper will bring snow showers back to the summits. This system will be a quick mover so not expecting a great deal out of it. Winds this morning will continue to be high, with gusts possibly crossing the century mark before dampening a bit into the overnight hours. Tomorrow, winds will once again ramp up as the low approaches. Blowing snow will continue to be a problem to visibility generating ground blizzards at times today and late tomorrow. With the low temperatures and high winds, a wind chill warning will remain in effect until midnight tonight as wind chills will remain below 50 below then a wind chill advisory will go into effect through tomorrow as wind chills remain below 30 below. Wind chills today will start 65-75 below before increasing to 50-60 below by days end then improving to 40-50 below by sunrise tomorrow then warming to 30-40 below by sunset tomorrow.
