Forecast Discussion
The leading edge of an arctic cold front passed yesterday allowing temperatures to trend downward. This downward trend will continue into tomorrow as an upper level trough continues to dig in pouring arctic air into the state into tonight and the early morning hours tomorrow. Favorable northwest winds will continue to aid in upslope snow showers today but these showers will be come spottier overnight into tomorrow as the cold air will be less likely to contain much moisture to work with. Overnight lows are still in disagreement with the models this morning. Have trended towards the lower models since these models are initialized a bit better. There is still a chance that temperatures could cross the 30 below mark but the low that sheared off the coast to the southeast inhibited the trough depth so the odds of this occurring are lower than past days. As the low that sheared off to our east departs and high pressure builds overnight, winds will be on the increase. As the high builds tomorrow, temperatures will improve a bit and winds will begin a slight downward trend. With frigid temperatures and increased winds, a wind chill warning will go into effect from sunrise today and will last through tomorrow as wind chills drop lower than 50 below. Wind chills today will start 35-45 below early but will fall to 55-65 below into the evening then continue to fall to 65-75 below into tomorrow morning before improving a bit to a range of 55-65 below around sunset.
