Forecast Discussion
Cold high pressure will continue to build over the region through today and pass to our south and out to sea overnight tonight. The pressure gradient has resulted in strong and gusty winds on the higher summits. Temperatures will bottom out well below zero this morning before recovering slowly starting this afternoon and continuing through the forecast period. The combination of cold temperatures and strong wind has resulted in a wind chill warning through today until midnight. After midnight a wind chill advisory will be in effect through mid day tomorrow. Drier air associated with the dome of high pressure will aid in clearing the summits from the clouds today which will result in mostly sunny skies. Forecast soundings show an isothermal layer transitioning into a shallow weak inversion below the summit trapping some low level moisture in the valleys. This may lead to partial undercast conditions today before the drier air erodes the moisture, but conditions will be marginal. Skies will again become cloudy tomorrow ahead of our next weather maker slated for Friday night. Models have been coming into better agreement with this storm after displaying a wide range of solutions earlier today. A low pressure system will pass to our south and spread moisture over the region Friday night. The exact details still have to be worked out but it looks like some snow is in the extended.
