Forecast Discussion

A trough of low pressure will sweep through today which will be enhanced by upslope flow continuing fog and snow showers on the summit. A low passing south of the state may aid in additional snow shower activity today if a band strays northward. On the front side of the trough, temperatures will rise a bit before plunging once again overnight on the backside. Conditions are expected to improve overnight into tomorrow as high pressure builds in clearing fog and ending snow showers early keeping the summits clear for the better part of the day. But despite the improving conditions, wind chills will still remain low. As a result, a wind chill advisory will remain in effect until this evening when a wind chill warning will replace it through tonight and tomorrow as wind chills drop below and remain under 50 below. Wind chills will be 40-50 below today falling to 50-60 below overnight into tomorrow. And for all those start gazers out there, there will be a lunar eclipse tonight at approx. 2200 EST (10 pm), the last until 2010.
