Forecast Discussion
A southwesterly flow of moist, milder air will begin to develop over New England as high pressure slides offshore and a low in
the mid west moves up into the Gr
eat Lakes region. This will increase and lower clouds over the summits during the day returning
fog on the summits by days end. Over the course of the day, southwesterly flow will strengthen as a warm front moves northward
across the region. This will bri
ng snow showers at the start this late afternoon/early evening but as the front passes, tempera
tures will continue to increase allowing for a cross over to sleet, freezing rain and possibly rain tomorrow morning. Tomorrow
will start with rain as temperatu
res rise above freezing at and above the summits. As the low passes, a cold front will trail al
lowing showers to start turning back into snow by days end tomorrow as temperatures drop back below freezing, although precipit
ation activity will become more s
howery by this time as the bulk the energy will have already passed. As the low moves up and pa
sses, winds will increase and remain fairly strong into tomorrow. I have ended the wind chill advisory a bit early since temper
atures have warmed quicker than p
rojected yesterday. And as temperatures improve, so will wind chill values. Today wind chills w
ill start 15-25 below rising to 5 below to 5 above by sunset before rising to 0-10 above by sunrise tomorrow peaking tomorrow e
arly 5-15 above then falling back
to 0-10 above by days end.
