Forecast Discussion
Low pressure that dropped significant amounts of precipitation on the northeast part of the country will continue on its way into the Canadian Maritimes. A ridge of high pressure will build today, and as a result, the summits will see lots of sunshine today, with skies above being mostly clear. Because the center of the high will pass to our south, winds will not have a chance to diminish as is the norm for high pressure, but will remain in the 35-50 mph range for tomorrow, continuing blowing and drifting snow. Tonight, a swiftly moving low pressure system will approach the region, increasing clouds throughout the day. In stark contrast to the most recent storm that affected the region, this system is fairly moisture starved, and there is only a chance of snow showers for tomorrow. After the passage of the front, temperatures will drop quickly to the low single digits above zero by tomorrow evening, and much colder after that. Winds will increase as high pressure pushes the low northward, tightening the pressure gradient. Wind chill values will drop with the temperatures, approaching but not reaching advisory criteria for the forecast period.
