Forecast Discussion
Low pressure moving into the Canadian Maritimes dragged an arctic cold front across the region, setting off snow and plummeting temperatures into the upper teens below zero. Strong high pressure descending from Canada is swiftly moving in, and as a result, the pressure gradient across New England is significant, and winds have increased quite a bit. As the low continues to travel northeast, and remain close to the coast line, wrap around moisture will contribute to the upslope snow shower activity today. However, with the high building from the west, the summits should see some clearing tonight, and winds will diminish overnight and through tomorrow. Another disturbance will send high clouds our way, on southwesterly flow, and temperatures will rise. With the diminishing wind, and increasing temperatures, wind chill values will be improving. There is a wind chill warning in effect through 7 pm tonight, and a wind chill advisory in effect 7p m tonight through 7 am tomorrow. Today, freezing fog and blowing snow will cause white out conditions on the higher summits.
