The Hurricane Watch Net (HWN) activated Monday morning at 1200 UTC for
Hurricane Irene. Net Frequency is 14.325 MHz. www.hwn.org

The Caribbean Emergency Wx Net is also active on 3.815 and 7.162 MHz.

SPECIAL NOTE: For those monitoring these nets please refrain from
getting involved unless your involvement is specifically asked for.

Hurricane Irene has gained some strength and most tracks are looking
like U.S. landfall in the Carolinas sometime on Saturday. Then Irene
will likely track north along the coast up into the New England areas.
Obviously track forecasts and timing are subject to change. IMHO it's
still way early, but I've seen several forecasters making track
comparisions to 1999's Hurricane Floyd:

As of 1500Z Tuesday Aug 23, 2011, the storm is located at 20.5 N,
71.0 W and moving WNW at 12 MPH. Maximum sustained winds are 100 MPH.
