Forecast Discussion

Exiting high pressure and an approaching low over the Great Lakes have shifted air to a southerly direction allowing warm air to move in this morning. A warm front tied to the deepening low to our west will continue to move through the state today. This will produce snow for the first part of the day but as warmer air works in for the afternoon, temperatures will approach freezing and will therefore produce showers of sleet, freezing rain, and possibly even rain in the afternoon. Overnight the first low exits dipping temperatures a bit as a cold front passes but another low approaches from the Ohio River Valley for Wednesday. The first low will be deepening today as it passes north of the state increasing winds into the overnight hours before relaxing tomorrow morning as the second low approaches. A warm front with the second low will be draped over southern NH into the morning hours making precipitation types a bit hard to determine. If the warm front edges northward, showers will once again go into a mix of types but if it remains over southern portions or further south, showers will be snow. Since earlier models have suggested a more northern run, have kept mixed showers for the morning tomorrow turning back to snow by the afternoon. As the second low passes, a cold front will begin to drop temperatures by midday continuing into the night. A third low will ride the heels of the second low riding the frontal boundary and continuing snow showers into the night. After the cold front of the third low, colder but drier air looks to be working its way in for Thursday. No statements will be issued for wind chills for the forecast period but wind chills will be 0-10 below this morning rising to 0-10 above by this afternoon and for the overnight hours before falling back to 0-10 below for tomorrow.
