Forecast Discussion
Overnight, the inversion continued aided with upslope flow dynamics which is continuing fog and snow showers into the morning. As high pressure builds in, winds will shift more westerly and low level moisture will begin to be cut off allowing for some afternoon clearing on the summits. If model soundings remain true, drier air will begin to mix in around mid morning before a total clearing is expected by this afternoon. Although fog free later, skies above will begin to see increased high cloud activity as a warm front approaches from the southwest tied to the first of a complex of lows expected over the next two days. Overnight as the lower levels moisten back up, the summits will plunge back into the clouds but temperatures will continue to rise as the high slides east and the front continues northeast generating a southwest flow of warmer air. Showers tied to this front will start in by the evening but with dry air in place, the bulk of the energy will not bring substantial showers until around midnight. Snow will continue into tomorrow as the front moves northeast and the low associated with the front slides north and east well to our west. Showers will start as snow but as the low travels northward, temperatures will continue to warm overnight and through the day tomorrow reaching around freezing by sunset which will allow for a mixing of precipitation types by days end. Wind chills will stay above any statement categories as they will start 15-25 below today rise to 5 below to 5 above by sunset falling back to 0-10 below overnight before rising to 0-10 above by sunset tomorrow.
