Forecast Discussion
With an upper level trough lifting northward, the summits will remain in the clouds with a chance of snow showers for much of the day today. Weak high pressure will make its way into the region. However, a lot of low level moisture will keep the summits from clearing completely. Towards evening, there will be periods of clearing, under cloudy skies. The moisture and high pressure battling will have the summits going in and out of the clouds overnight, with a lingering chance for snow showers. A low pressure system developing off the Carolina coast will sail northward tonight. A weak high will keep the storm well to our east, and it will diminish in intensity as it travels north east. Wrap around moisture will provide a chance for snow showers tonight and tomorrow, but winds will remain pretty calm for summits standards. Even with winds in the 30 mph range, freshly fallen snow will still be blowing and drifting, limiting visibility above tree line. The next weather maker will come from a low moving south east from Canada. The upper levels have a negatively trough extending from the far north western part of Canada, and becoming more negatively tilted as it continues to travel. This means more precipitation is on its way to the summits.
