Forecast Discussion

A low pressure system brought with it some ice pellets and snow for the summits yesterday. With winds under 20 mph, the snow has merely settled on the summit. A surface low pressure system will be moving out to sea, and pass to our south and east. As a result, the summits will be in the clouds with snow likely for today. As the surface low passes, and the summits become influenced by the upper level trough, the snow will taper to showers overnight. Low level moisture will remain in the region, and southerly winds will maintain the supply, keeping the summits in the clouds for much of the forecast period. High pressure will briefly build overhead tomorrow, providing a brief period of clearing towards evening on Friday. Cooler air will filter in on westerly winds today and tonight, putting temperatures in the upper single digits. Winds will remain relatively calm, and temperature advection overnight will be weak, keeping temps constant through the night. SW flow overnight will bring some warmer air into the region, and put temperatures into the double digits again tomorrow. Even though winds will be relatively calm, there is still a good chance for blowing and drifting snow above tree line.
