Forecast Discussion
Although clouds and fog will continue to obscure the sky early today, a few breaks are in sight for tonight as a stalled front is finally ejected from the region. The weak cold front poised to pass through today will not create any significant drops in temperature, but rather prevent them from climbing too far. It will also produce showers and possibly a few rumbles of thunder out ahead of it late this afternoon. Although models diverge a bit on when the most optimal instability will exist, the general consensus is early afternoon through late evening. So any thunderstorms that do fire will most likely do so during this time period. The departure of the front and the influence of weak high pressure will permit fog to become intermittent during the night. Temperatures will fall to around the freezing mark, and continue to recede tomorrow as a stronger cold front sets its sights on the summits. A potent upper-level trough will push this front through tomorrow, which will spark a few mixed showers and thunderstorms during the day as winds begin to ramp up once again. Instability does not appear as significant tomorrow, so the chance for thunderstorms is noticeably less. Fog move back into the picture for the summits tomorrow, bringing a return of icing conditions thanks to expected sub-freezing temperatures enforced by the trough sitting overhead.
