THIS WEEK'S POSSIBLE EVENTS.
None expected.

NOTES.

1. Three of the older NOAA weather satellites which have been
    decommissioned and are tumbling freely are know to sporadically put
out
    a carrier on 137.500 MHz.  The satellites are TIROS-N, NOAA 6 and NOAA
9
    When the relevant footprints overlap this will cause interference to
    NOAA 15 when active on this frequency.
    Latest report below.
    22/07/08 - There is some recent evidence that NOAA 9 is once again
    transmitting a spurious carrier from time to time. (I am grateful to
    John Cooper from Oxford for this report).

2. NOAA 16's APT transmission system failed a few months after launch.

3. Metop-A's A-side LRPT transmitter has failed.  Currently the redundant
   B-side transmitter is off until further notice (No further service
   expected due to interference with HIRS instrument).

4. NOAA 14 was decommissioned on 23rd May 2007.

5. NOAA 12 was decommissioned on 10th August 2007.

NOTES.

1.  NOAA 14 was decommissioned on 23rd June 2007.

2.  NOAA 12 was decommissioned on 10th August 2007.

3. On Friday 19th September 2003 NOAA 16 developed AVHRR synch. problems
    similar  to those on NOAA 14 (and previously NOAA 15).
    Since then reports have been mixed.  Some periods of good data, some
    poor.
   UPDATE:  Scan motor performance has recently improved.

4. On 29 September 2008, EUMETSAT commenced a partial Metop-A AHRPT
   Direct Readout service. Due to the operational constraints, the
   activation of AHRPT is for a limited geographical region covering
   the North Atlantic and European area (southbound passes only).  This
   service is being introduced for a trial period of up to  2 months,
   following which the activation scenario will become operational. For

NOTES.

1.  Meteosat 7 stopped its 0° service at 09.00 UTC on 14th June 2006.

2. Meteosat-6 arrived on station at 67.5 degrees East, on the 27 April
2007.
   After a short testing campaign, Meteosat-6 is now supporting the DCP
   mission over the Indian Ocean during eclipse periods.

3. Insat 3A is a combined data and meteorological satellite.

4. For those interested in EMWIN data, the following sats/frequencies
apply.

    GOES 7     (175 W)  1690.725 MHz.
    GOES 11   (135 W)  1690.725 MHz
    GOES 12   (74.5 W) 1690.725 MHz

5.  This satellite is also known as HIMAWARI 6.

6. HiRID and WEFAX was discontinued on 12th March 2008.  It was replaced
   with HRIT/LRIT (after many months of dual dissemination).

7. Only LRIT (1691.0 MHz) is provided in direct readout.
    Full HRIT and LRIT service from Eumetcast.

Feng Yun 2E expected to launch by end of 2008.

THIS WEEK AND  FUTURE  POSSIBLE  EVENTS.
General Note.
Due to sun interferences of the disseminating satellites users might
experience lower signal margin or outages on EUMETCast.
The exact times and durations of the signal degradation or outages depends
on the reception location.

All C/Band Africa users should also expect a period of degradation from
05/10/08 to 13/10/08 between 10:45 and 11:05 UTC.

In the last quarter of 2008 the EUMETCast-Europe service will move from
HOT
BIRD 6 at 13 degrees E to EUROBIRD 9 at 9 degrees E.

The operational data has resumed via EUROBIRD-9. We will make an
announcement if any further interruptions are expected.

Ground Segment.
Due to essential maintenance on 14/08/08 between 08.00 and 12.00 UTC,
Archive online ordering will not be available.

Due to essential maintenance on 14/10/08 between 12:00 and 14:00 UTC there
is a risk of interruption to the following services:
Meteosat-9 HRIT SEVIRI Data
Meteosat-9 LRIT SEVIRI Data
Meteosat-9 Meteorological Products

Meteosat 8 RSS.
Due to sun co-linearity from 07/10/08 to 17/10/08 between 11:00 and 11:20
UTC users may experience interruptions.

The Meteosat-8 Rapid Scanning Service will be interrupted from 18/11/08
till
18/12/08 for the annual one month full earth scanning.
Full earth scanning data (if any) will not be disseminated except during
Meteosat-9 decontamination operations.

Meteosat 9.
Due to sun co-linearity from 06/10/08 to 16/10/08 repeat cycles 11:30 and
11:45 UTC may be interrupted or not available.

A Meteosat-9 SEVIRI decontamination is planned to start during week 49.
During this time Meteosat-8 will be the prime mission spacecraft.
Further details will be provided in due time.

Meteorological Product Update.
On 16/10/08 at 10:00 UTC the fire detection product (FIR) will be updated
with an improved algorithm.
The new algorithm significantly improves the detection of fires (better
sensibility, better temporal consistency) while also reducing the number
of
false alarms.

FSD.
Due to GOES12_75W eclipse season from 14/08/08 to 19/10/08, the 04:00,
05:00
and 06:00 UTC files may not be available.
Due to GOES11_135W eclipse season from 14/08/08 to 30/10/08, the 08:00 and
09:00 UTC files may not be available.
Due to MTSAT-1R_140E eclipse season from 22/08/08 to 20/10/08, the 14:00
and
15:00 UTC files may be not available.
Due to a MTSAT-1R_140E manoeuvre on 16/10/08 at 08:15 UTC and on 19/10/08
at
09:00 UTC, images may not be available for up to 6 hours following the
manoeuvre.

IODC.
Due to a Meteosat-7 manoeuvre on 14/10/08 at 04:28 UTC, users may
observe degraded image quality for up to 6 hours after the manoeuvre.

Metop-A.
13/10/2008 19:39 ASCAT: Gain compression.

19/10/2008 15:36 - 20/10/2008 01:44. GOME : Moon calibration.
