Forecast Discussion
The upper level closed low that has remained over the northeast for most of this week will continue its holding pattern today. This will allow an organized shortwave to sweep through along with a weak cold front with timing during the afternoon and evening hours. For the morning, a bit of clearing with partial undercast as drier air works in but as the day progresses, clouds will increase and showers activity will pick up. The front this afternoon will allow for thunderstorms with some becoming severe producing heavy rain, high winds, small hail, and frequent lightning. Model sounding and current observations this morning are indicating a high probability for thunderstorms this afternoon. If not directly on the summit, defiantly within the vicinity of it. Overnight, things die down and the closed low opens a bit to become more of a trough that will retrograde west. This will allow for a weak and quick ridge of high pressure to nudge up from the south for tomorrow. Although lower levels will dry out, enough instability remains above to continue cloud cover, mostly in fair weather cumulus clouds and bring the chance of showers or thunderstorms.
