Just a reminder...
The CQ WW VHF Contest is this weekend. This is a 6m/2m only
contest so it's easier for a "small gun" station to be
competitive. Let's hope for more 6m surprises like we had in
the June contest. Try telling me that was not a lot of fun ;-)
I plan to work at least portions of this one from EM78PP. Also
welcome a new local 6m op, Lonnie KI4WEF to 6 meters.
I'm compiling a list of announced plans and will post them to
the NKDXE mailing list later this week. Plans are just now
starting to be announced.
My evolving listing can be found here:

W0US's Google spreadsheet listings are available here:

If you wish, you can add your plans to the above.
Some rovers have announced plans already. Of note is our
semi-local rover...Dan K9ZF will be portable from EM68wo on
Saturday and EM78el on Sunday.
After this it's the ARRL UHF Contest on August 6-7th and then
the ARRL Sept VHF+ Contest will be on September 10-12th.
While I had several West Coast inquiries regarding rare KY grid
EM87, no sign of any planned operations there. I'm contemplating
a mini-vacation trip down to White Mtn for next June, but I'm
just in the "thinking about it" stage.
Don't know if the usual Pine Mtn KY EM87 DXpedition group will
be active for this one. I suspect gas prices are making a lot of
folks think twice about rover/portable ops. I think the Pine
Mountain group usually goes there in September when Wx is cooler
and gas is cheaper. Unfortunately 6m double-hop to the west is
not very likely that late in the E-skip season.
Get on the air and have some fun this weekend. Remember we are
now past the peak of the 6m spring/summer "easy season" on 6m
and things will start slowing down on 6m in the coming weeks.
With our rather wimpy solar cycle so far, don't know if we'll
see much of a fall DX season...but it would be wise to keep the
rigs on ;-)
