Ok I'm new to the software so I might as well embarrass myself. I have "grabbed" about 20 maps. After I load a map, I go into options to show symbols on the map, every symbol is off 60 miles from where it should be instead of its correct coordinates. How do I get the symbols to show their correct locations ?
Thanks.

Presumably it isn't a case everyone around you beaconing positions that
are exactly 60 miles off. It is far more likely that your maps aren't
calibrated properly. If you can determine either the lat / long of the
top left / bottom right corners of the maps (or any two points near any
two corners) you could re-calibrate them. That would be quite an
undertaking if you are new at this, but doable. Start with just one map
and see if you can do it. Search the help for "Create An INF File". Also
look at the existing INF files - especially ones that are calibrated
properly - for comparison. They should be in the MAPS folder below where
you installed UI-View.
If the re-calibration points are the top left / bottom right corners,
you could just edit the INF file. If you went with the "two point"
method, you would have to go the "drag and drop" method. If I was doing
that, I would just delete the bogus INF files and one by one drag and
drop the maps onto the main screen and go about entering the coordinates
using the "two point" method.
Have fun with it and learn to do it, but also look forward to dynamic
maps in the future!

2a. Problem getting UI-View working with Precision Mapping 8.1

I got UI-View, Precision Mapping 7.0, and Precision Mapping 8.1 registered
and working on my Toshiba Tecra laptop just fine with all the advertised
options.
I purchased an HP Mini net book with the intent of using it for more
portable HF/VHF digital operation but ran into a problem with UI-View/Precision
Mapping 8.1.
1) Loaded UI-View and got it running fine with the original
registration information.
2) Loaded Precision Mapping 8.1 and got it running fine as a “stand
aloneö application with the new registration information as required by
Undertow.
3) Found that the UI-View “Mapö, “Control Panelö couldn't be
accessed.
4) Did an un-install of Precision Mapping 8.1 with the Precision
Mapping un-install option.
5) Loaded Precision Mapping 7.0 and it seemed to have created the
same folders as were on the Toshiba laptop. The UI-View “Mapö, “Control Panelö
became available and the new registration of Precision Mapping 7.0
required by Undertow went smooth.
6) Re-loaded Precision Mapping 8.1 and it operated just fine as a “
stand aloneö application without having to re-register with Undertow.
7) Got UI-View to recognize the Precision Mapping 8.1 Data files and
modified the MapPro71.cfg file.
8) UI-View would only load the Precision Mapping 7.0 map instead of
the Precision Map 8.1.
Does anyone know what I need to do to get Precision Mapping 8.1 to work
with UI-View.

Stephen WA8LMF has some really good instructions at
http://wa8lmf.net/aprs/pmap8_notes.htm.
"A complete UI-View / Precision Mapping 8.x install consists
of three separate programs that must be installed separately,
and in the correct order"
It sounds like you may have varied "the correct order" hi! Here's hoping
you can follow the "upgrade from PM7 to PM8" instructions and get it
going. Start by uninstalling PMap 7. I would probably uninstall PMap 8.1
as well. Reboot. It would be extra work, but you could reinstall PMap 7
yet another time and uninstall hit - hi! Then install PMap 8.1. Then in
UI-View go to MAP - CONTROL PANEL and under OPTIONS do the
PMap Data Paths - Easy Setup.
It would be more work than I would want to do, but you caps with enough detail, but
not too much, for the Scouts.

Is it just objects that don't show up in UI-Point?... i.e. do regular
position reports show up OK there?

Yes, it seems to show all the other position reports just fine.
And that's the only object I tried. Wonder if the Boy Scout icon is somehow
not supported. When I get a chance, I'll send the object with a more common
icon.

Keith,
I tried sending the object with the Kenwood Icon, and ui-point isn't showing
it, but ui-view and APRSPoint are.
Must be a ui-point thing.
I'm trying PA7RHMSvr but getting error message ("An error occurred loading
the map. The error message is 'Path/File access error'. Until you load
another map, the display is invalid.") from ui-view everytime I try to run
it. I've emailed Chris to see if he has an answer, as I don't find it in
the ui-view docs or his docs.
Thanks again for being there to help.

YES! UI-Point is a very INCOMPLETE rendering of APRS functions.
Many kinds of information, including alpha-numeric symbol overlays,
weather radar images, UI-NWS shape files, APRS area objects, track
lines, range circles, overlays and underlays, etc that show inside
UIview DO NOT render on the external UI-Point display.
UI-Point & MapPoint were never intended to replace the main map display
INSIDE UI-View.
