Hiya,

IT is now confirmed that a Polish HGV driver in Britain today SP6??-9 was
seen travelling north courtesy of Xastir on a path of:apu25n,tcpip* . I
felt it may have been a joke and queried by the use of ?APRSS and ?APRST
but no it was NO joke. Time has moved on apace and clearly this chap was
using a laptop/GPS/WiFi powered by his cig lighter. When one has spent
over 400quid on a state of the art Kenwood when a simple outlay of 250quid
on a laptop would have sufficed. I knew from BT FON that Europe was fast
becoming WiFi sensitive indeed whenever i travel long distances my laptop
is on to chat real-time with others in the *Hobby*.

I was asked the other day what path i would recommend and before today i
would have recommended the :Cq v ARISS,SGATE,WIDE,I: path but all now has
been put to one side as clearly if you have a WiFi stick all you now need
is :APU25N,TCPIP* . All of my long distance travel is confined to the EU
and we eat up Ks of miles each month. No one can really appreciate the
hobby so well as the moment they are digi'd by the ISS it is truly amazing
and whats even more amazing is that real-time waffles about the event can
go on for hours:)

So to all who have asked me indirectly, just get a laptop for a few
hundred quid download uiv32 and get it registered to you and your call
then set it up following Roger G4IDE(SK) very carefully. It is a brilliant
program written by the worlds top author much better than any other APRS
ive seen or tried. Now log on. Be careful to follow all the precise
instructions. For use mobile you will need a WiFi aerial and a small pod
GPS and a cig lighter lead. Ensure you follow all the directions given for
mobile working and setting up the GPS.

Seeing is believing, i had no idea that EU was so well saturated by Wifi
but thanks to the goodwill of the online community we enjoy connectivity
FREE.

Bonne Route!
