May be slightly off topic, if so I will willingly delete message.
Have at last managed to set up my Kenwood D710, ( I think), and am
happily decoding signals on the UiView maps. My weather station is
certainly putting data on my screen, hopefully it is escaping to the
outside world!
However, every time an APRS signal was decoded, the receiver beeped. I
managed to turn the beep off in the menu, but discovered that this was
a "key operated" beep only, but at least I turned it down in volume.
It took me a long time to discover that the remaining beep could be
turned off completely in menu 624, "RX Beep"! Thanks to all those who
offered advice and a Happy Christmas to all.

Peter (G8ZQA)

Hi Andy:

Thanks for the reply. I can create the uiwx.txt file manually with
the export function, but the application is not creating the wx.txt
file, either in the heavyweather or UI-weather directories.

I can select the WS2300 as a favorite station and it seems to present
the data to the UI-Weather display fine. I also see other weather
stations appear in the list as they come into UI-View. I understand
pointing UI-View to wx.txt, but my issue is that UI-Weather is not
creating this file.

I was able to get UI-Weather to create the jpg file and store it
locally or push it to my FTP server...just missing wx.txt.

Thanks,

Tim, N1TI

Another thing to remember is that there is a setup for UIWx in the UIWeather window as well as well as weather station setup in the UIView window. Both need to be configured properly.

Thanks Ed...I'll give that a try.

pointed the ui-weather setup to that directory.

3a. UiView with D710

I thought that I was doing well receiving loads of stations on UiView
but suspected that the D710 was not being keyed to transmit weather
data. I was right! There is nothing wrong with the TX part because it
can be keyed from the mike, so the problem is in the way I have set
up the COMS!
Two coms leads come with the rig, one with a 9 pin D plug which plugs
into COM1 (or whatever). The other has a jack plug to go into the
soundcard mike socket, the other goes to line out which presumably
acts a keyer when I get the software working.
Methos 1, using Packet engine Pro, specify sound card, receives
UIView stations. My WX station updates as specified, but the
transmitter is never keyed no matter which line out the corresponding
lead to the rig is plugged into.
I suspect that it is not necessary to use the Packet Pro at all so
followed the instructions on Mac's UiView website to programme the
software "Coms" boxes, the only deviation was to use D700 in the
modem list, assuming it to be similar to the D710. Maybe it is not,
and they give you little information about this part of the unit!
Using this way, the only station on the map is my own because it is
not received via the radio. I have tried other modems in the list but
usually finish up with a screen lock-up.
Wonder if anyone else has successfully managed to persuade the unit
to talk on UiView please?

Thanks

Peter (G8ZQA)

I haven't, because I don't have a 710. I have a D700 and a D7. The
D700 is only used in APRS mode so UI-View is never used with it. The
D7 has been used with UI-View. In order to use these rigs with UI-View
(or any other APRS client), you must use the PACKET setting, and _not_
the APRS setting.

Did you ever get a reply? I don't have a D700. Where's the STA
indicator? Is that on the radio? I take it the problem is that the D700
is not transmitting when UI-View tells it to? Does the D700 run open
squelch in APRS and PACKET mode?

Is this a UI-View problem, a serial port problem, a cable problem or a
D700 problem? I know KISS is the preferred mode, and needed if you are
going to run a UI-View based digi (unless using AGWPE or BPQ) but what
if you try HOST MODE NONE? Have you tried watching the terminal window
to see what can be seen when you enable the D700 on the COMMS SETUP?
Do you have another TNC that you can try? Do you have a way of checking
the cable? Do you have a way of checking the PCs serial port? Perhaps
you could narrow the cause of the problem down a bit. Can you take it
out of KISS mode and run some tests with a terminal program and the
D700?

Any other D700 / UI-View users that could steer Jim in the right
direction?

Please see <http://www.apritch.myby.co.uk/uiv32.htm> for UI-View registration information.
Precision Mapping version 8 works with UI-View32; the necessary additional PMapServer7 is available for download at <http://www.ui-view.org>.
At <http://wa8lmf.net/aprs/UIview_Notes.htm>, you will find useful hints and info for your UI-View setup and use.
