Gang,

Where can I find the info on how the password mechanism works with the
SYSOP command? I'm sure it is documented, but I haven't found it yet.

I'm looking for the description of when you set the password in your
ROM and connect to the digi remotely, how do you know what response to
send.

Hi Chuck,

The simple answer can be found buried in this complicated one...

In the original set of three files from Marco IW3FQG you have:
IW3FQG.BIN
IW3FQG.TXT
UIDGCFG.EXE
I assume you are familiar with the mechanism for compiling your image
(bin) file using the UIDGCFG.EXE.
Before you compile you can change the default password with a string
of your choice in the part that has:
SysopPassword          =       defaultpassword.

After you have compiled it, burnt and installed the EPROM....
>From a remote location you type "SYSOP".....
It replies with 5 numbers separated with spaces.
Type in the letters that correspond with the numerical position of the
password string that you entered, with no spaces between.
There is no acknowledgement!
Type in a sysop only type command and see if it works, e.g. "Test".

You can download UIDIGI V1.9 beta 3 from
http://www.ir3ip.net/iw3fqg/uidigi-e.htm

Hope that helps,

The password mechanism is simple, you must type the letter/number of the position number that the modem return to you after the command sysop.

For example:

Your password is
thepassword

and the number that you receive from the modem is:

1 8 10 6 3

you need to response with:

twrse

beacause t is the 1st letter of your password, w is the 8th letter, r is the 10th letter ecc ecc ecc

Thank-you Brian and Maurizio for your prompt replies.

I got it.

Hey Chuck

This help ???

---------------------------------------------------

The sysop can connect directly the digipeater from the radio port or via the serial port.
In the first case (radio port) the sysop must send the password using the SYSOP command (using the
standard NETROM algorithm meaning password request will come as a random number representing the
number requested from the password).
Example: password: MYPASSWORD after the sysop command is issued via remote you will be prompted for
something like 2 5 7 9. Your response would be YSWR
