Ron and Tim .. We've run several 1.9b3 digis here for years.. The ?APRS?
query does definitely work .. The response the digi sends back comes from
the Beacon 1 Text only.. I have seen some configs set up with the actual Lat
Long posit beacon is actually either Beacon 2 or 3 .. The result is that it
seems that there is no response to Queries apart from say a status beacon or
whatever. Most clients just effectivlely ignore a frame until it has a
matching posit to supoport it..

1) Check your LatLong posit beacon is Beacon 1

2) See what your Path settings are for BDL 1. If your expecting a respose
from a digi that is not direct

3) Check what your Beacon 1 offset value is . This could cause a large delay
to query responses.

4) Log onto the digi either remotely or via direct connect. Check the
ReplyToQuery setting. This might sound silly
but I have found a TAB value on some of the setting strings for some config
files. Only SPACE values should be used
before and after the EQUALS sign. The result of TAB being included does seem
to confuse the configurator.
You get a config text file that appears correct but a Binary file thats
actually different..

5) Use the Eprom file converter EXE file to pull apart the Binary file you
have back to a Text file (UIDMPCFG.EXE)
In other words , reverse engineer the Binary to see what the TNC thinks it
is seeing.

Tim,

Thanks, that confirms what I am finding. I see the string ?APRS? in the
binary so guess the supporting code does not
work. Wish I had the source, could maybe fix it.

Tony,

Guess I am doing something wrong. Here is what is on the digi for beacon 1 and ReplyToQuery:

Beacon1Interval = 600
Beacon1Offset = 0
ReplyToQuery = 1
Beacon1Text = !4156.93N109139.59W#PHG6230 W1,IA1 Cedar Rapids Iowa

The above is from the output of UIDMPCFG.EXE.

I was trying to do the ping from my UI-View system, here is what it looked like over the air as monitored by a separate
TNC/Radio:

K0QVF*>APU25N:
:K0QVF-2  :?APRS?{88

I get no response from the digi.

I've just tried here with our local UI-Digi, and it ignored me as
well. The string being transmitted was certainly ?APRS?
I can bounce queries off other stations going via the UI-Digi, so I
know it can hear and decode me properly.

You never know, perhaps if you asked Marco IW3FQG nicely he may oblige
you with the source?
