Hi Ian and all,
No what?
The Jet Stream does have a major effect blocking air masses so naturally
we're affected the same way. The only way I can see it on a weather map is
glued to the TV on the Weather Channel blah blah blah when all I really care
about is the local forecast I can get on the internet. Naturally I don't
watch the Weather Channel.
Oddly enough our NJ weather has been closely matched with the UK lately,
temps roughly the same but the real match is precipitation. The past few
years it has been mild summer and winter which is also a fair match and get
this, again the greenies lately jumped on yet another
"sign" of global warming. Of course they conveniently overlooked AVERAGE, do
they think we all were asleep in math class?
HAH! Boy, was your timing off for that visit to the Netherlands. (;->) When
you landed at the airport you got a taste of conditions I'm very familiar
with having put in 7 years on the ramp at Newark Liberty International, third
busiest in the US. (O'Hare Chicago is 1st) The diffeerence is planes are
never scattered all over the place and snow removal equipment is busy along
with de-icing trucks, unlike them we're used to it. Of course working
conditions get a little rough but it comes with the job.
Interestingly we have a Dutchie on one of the internet ham sites I frequent
and his description of overall conditions in the country, Utopian compared to
here. Once upon a time I had my sights set on Australia but their economy has
troubles these days so now it's Holland. Trouble is my situation makes a
local move difficult and emmigration impossible but I can dream.
I've never seen an Airbus 380 except in pictures but at the airport I've been
all over the Boeing 747 (and a few others) and I thought that was big? Well,
you've not seen big intil you've seen the Russian monster transport I can't
recall the name of, 4 were in military service for a short time but operating
expenses put the kibosh on them. I don't know what happened to the other
three but one is in private service, used infrequently for the same reason
which makes me wonder what they charge for a hire.
It's been so long since I saw Day Of The Jackal so I don't remember anything
but the title. That custom made gun reminds me of The Man With The Golden
Gun, one of the James Bond films. If I remember right he was an assasin by
the name of Scaramanga (sp?) and the custom one shot gun (that was all he
needed) was gold plated. Now who played Scaramanga? Drat, I can see his face
but not the name, he is a British actor well known from his roles in horror
moves, I believe he played Dracula opposite Peter Cushing in one.
Official Secrets Act, funny. Of course no one would believe you, we oldies
are senile and in our lucid moments babble our imaginings. Must be one of
those Baron Munchausen things. (;->)
