FARADAY PHILOSOPHICAL MOTOR

The Faraday Philosopical motor demonstrated the turning force of an electric current passing through a wire. It consisted of two circular pools which were filled with mercury. Into these pools dipped contacts at each end of a vertically mounted iron bar that was suspended by two pivot points at top and bottom. When electricity was applied by way of the mercury pools, the bar rotated in a horizontal plane.
