I'm not sure if this helps, but I've been recently upgrading systems here.
These are my observations:

bpq408a has been running OK for many years, but occasionally crashes,
which
may be due to a long-standing bug when it receives a NAK flag.

I recently tried bpq409c which was available on the Internet, but found
that its node list wouldn't update.

Then I found bpq409d (for DOS) in the files area of the bpq32 Yahoo Group
and it seems to be stable.

Has anyone else tried it?

Hi Roger,

My local BBS ZL1AB uses BPQ408a in the same PC as F6FBB, so it can run an
Ethernet card link to an G8PZT Xrouter 1.87f DOS PC next door.

The Xrouter has many more features than BPQ408a. But it is a compatible
NETROM node program.

The BPQ408a gets a monthly reboot when the F6FBB files are updated & old
Mail & Bulletins deleted. Also F6FBB does a housekeeping warm restart
every morning at 6am.

I haven't tried BPQ409d.

BPQ408a is handy for very old PCs running Win3.1 because it can run a
Baycom or equivalent serial modem. Newer PCs running a later Windows
version can use AGWpe to drive simple modems.
