Oh my, somebody besides John MNY posted to TECH, what is the packet world

Oh that brought back memories, in my early packet years ('96 forward) one of
my local repeaters on Staten Island (borough of Richmond, NY) picked up a
jammer. It wasn't long before the control operators probably knowing already
installed a fingerprinting board, all hardware initially and a BMF board at
that rather like the old ROSE switch. It was common knowledge because they
openly fingerprinted users and put our data in files, the idea is to compare
the jammer's fingerprint to ours. Soon after they caught him, don't know what
they did with him but knowing how they do business in New York it wasn't
pretty.
