Hello Phil

Thanks for drawing this to our attention..

Had a look at mine. Yuk...

Used a 3 inch Wall paper scraper.

Placed the blade of the scraper to the edge of the 'foam'.
Using firm steady pressure and a single stoke through the foam.
Clean the blade after each stroke with paper (kitchen roll)
All came off in two strokes as a messy goo left on the blade..

On the side with the speaker. Cut a peice of 2mm card 3 1/2 x 4 1/2 inches
and placed over the very fine layer of goo ('glue') left.

Same for the battery cover - this time used 2mm card 3 1/4 x 4 1/4 inches
I was already was using some extra 3mm 'foam' on top of the original, which
I reseated with double sided tape to the Card.
Using the materals that I had to hand..

My experience in the past with rubber belts when they 'break down in to goo'
when trying to clean up the residue. It gets everywhere. Hence why in this
case used card as an insulator as it was too hand..
