I'll just add to that, that I make the earth wire just a touch longer than it
need be - that means it will likely be the last wire to pull out, rather than
the first, should the flew come under tension.
One thing I learned quite recently...
Never solder tin the wire ends. The solder can creep under pressure in the
terminals and cause poor high resistance connections. That applies to lots of
similar connections, not just 13amp plug fitting. In the days before
appliances came with plugs already fitted, you would often find the flex end
ready stripped and the ready bared wires pre-tinned.
