ath.cx is just one of the domain names used by DYNDNS and are usually free,
hence their use by Radio Amateurs.

Maybe the non-availability (if I read your bulletin correctly , for WEEKS
at a time) is just confined to access from South America. Here in the UK
the ath.cx domain server seems to be working ok, certainly not unavailable
for the time periods that you suggest. I am currently running an experimental
AXUDP link from here (gb7dby.shacknet.nu) to gb7max.ath.cx and that has not
shown the outages that you suggest. Likewise the DXCluster that I oversee
uses the domain name gb7nhr.shacknet.nu and has maintained near perfect
connectivity to GB7MBC (gb7mbc.spoo.org) for the last month or so.

The service that I have obtained from DYNDNS has been second to none.

If it's a SPECIFIC ******.ath.cx that you find unobtainable then that is
probably due to the fact that that specific domain name has expired.
All the DYNDNS free domain names have to be renewed each month and if
the owners don't do so then they expire and as such are free for anyone
else to take them up. Go onto the DYNDNS website and see if you can be
allocated the unobtainable ******.ath.cx - but watch out for fireworks
from Paula if you pinch 'her' domain name !!
