Hi all,

First of all wishing you all a great 2015!

A few months ago I posted that I was fed up and was planning to just
simply shut down the BBS.

Well, since then a new development has taken place here in NL with people
having started HAMnet. This is at least similar to where I would have
wanted to take the PWGN and where we then could have used some serious
money available to build some links. Well, the latter wasn't allowed to
be with even some people I would have expected to vote for my idea to
vote against and in favour of abolishing the Packet Society here.

But, as this HAMnet initiative is taking shape, I have the idea it is
worth wile to check it out and possibly participate in it.
For this I've decided to simply keep the BBS running for at least some
more time, and then to see where it will go.
Though I think that BBS' as we have known them for many years, with only
BBS and or FBB forwarding, are just utter outdated; to restricted and
totally not versatile. But, I also think that any AR data network, which
just simply primarily should be build using high-speed radio links, is
to support all sorts of applications connected to it for the links. That
would include the classic BBS applications and more.
However, that does not imply that there should not be any protocol
translation interfaces necessary, i.e. a node that would allow 1k2 AX25
connects to then have someone connect to a BBS further down.
Sort of like the options that have been available for many years in all
the TCP/IP based packages, like JNOS and NETCHL.

So, I'm curious to see where this will go, and thus will be around for
some more time.

I am opposed to my bulletins being placed on systems where these bulletins
can be publicly accessed by anyone, including search engines and spambots,
from the Internet, without that the user first has to logon to have access
to the system!
Having Packet bulletins on display on so many systems, where the sysops
think these bulletins are so important for the people outside of Amateur
Radio that they need to have access to them, quite often indefinitely, is
just ridiculous Internet polution!
