Firstly, let us all stop getting hot under the colar.
*ALL* of us sysops are guilty of forwarding the old bulletins.

Well Trev, I think I looked a bit further than you.
The *ORIGINAL* R:Line (the ones generated by G0TEZ) clearly are in error.
The date given are yet to arrive, another 12 years or so for one that
starts R:20 .

The correct format is R:YYMMDD/HHMMZ
Take this bulletin as an example :-
R:080214/1129z

Now one of TEZs bulletins show
R:20041006/1733 GMT

The date most BBS software will translate that to
Year 2020
Month 04 (April)
Day 10
So it is quite likely to be floating around the packet network until
a week or so after that date.

Now as most of our BBS software uses the *ORIGINAL* R:Line date as a judge
of if it should be forwarded or not then *THAT* is the problem.

R:Line dates *SHOULD* be correct. Whoever supplies the 1st R:Line (be it
the bulletin writer or his BBS) is responsible for that line.
The fact that most packet users are oblivious to what R:Lines they are
generating is no excuse for them doing wrong.

My own PMS packet program generates it's own R:Line, and displays it as
the first line of my bulletin. It's *MY* responsibility to ensure that
it is correct. I can edit it as I wish, but if *I* get it wrong and it
causes mayhem then it's *MY* fault, not the fault of some sysop the other
side of the world who subsequently relies on that R:Line some years into
the future.

} actually with sending messages like the above you sound more like a
