I suspect that the default setting for some software is to send SB WP@WW,
and maybe sysops don't understand enough to change that setting?

Well I was guilty of that one last week! I couldn't remember the command
to review mail, and guessed wrongly, causing it to release mail :-(

I think you may be right. We no longer see WA7MBL, W0RLI, F6FBB or even
G8BPQ on here. Plus most of the people I regarded as gurus when I got into
packet are also gone.
I may be wrong, but I get the impression that some BBS's are being operated
by people who don't really know what they're doing. There's nothing wrong
with that of course; we all have to learn, and Packet software is not easy
to configure. But as you say, there isn't much help available. BBS sysop
manuals are difficult to understand, and maybe sysops feel too embarrassed
to ask questions?
