No Dave am interested in receiving single pictures sent over the
Amateur Radio bands.
And waiting for good Antenna description from technically sound people
like you.
Regards
Adeel

trying to get satellite television pictures perhaps? If so, the MM-SSTV
program will not be of any use to you. The program receives single
pictures sent over the Amateur Radio bands. It is a bit like using a
photocopier over the radio, or sending pictures on a fax machine.Dave

Well, there ham bands up in the F-Band region. But I doubt there is much
SSTV activity up there. You'd do better with a 20 meter beam or at least
a nice 20 meter dipole 10 to 20 meters up in the air, if you are looking
for antenna suggestions. And while it is feasible to construct a circular
polarized 20 meter antenna I doubt that it is even approximately worth
the effort. Plain old horizontal linear polarization is sufficient. We
ARE talking about frequencies with large wavelengths. (14.230 MHz is one
of the chief MM-SSTV frequencies. A resonant dipole for the frequency is
on the order of 34.5' long roughly speaking.)
I have a feeling you are assuming some things not in evidence. This is
not a wi-fi like technology working in the 3 GHz to 4 GHz region of the
spectrum. It is chiefly used on HF with some modest use on VHF and UHF
repeater systems. (It's usually banned on repeater systems. At least in
the LA area I've never tuned across somebody using it when I've scanned
the 450 MHz ham band. I have, however, used it myself on 3.845 MHz and
3.840 MHz a few times. Um, that's where the wavelength is in the 230'
range so a dipole is about 115' long give or take some.)
What were you planning to use as a receiver? With a decent frequency
synthesized radio running in an SSB mode you can generally get adequate
reception only on HF with random lengths of wire tossed out the window
for 20 to 100' or so. Longer lengths will favor lower frequencies. And
if you can get it up over a tree that is much MUCH better than running
it along the ground.

2. SSTV Satellites

What are the satellites providing SSTV images for amateur?
I only know about
AO-10(145.940 Mhz USB for receive),FO-20 and FO-29 (435.880 USB for
receive) SuitSat(145MHz)
Any other hamsat provide SSTV images?
Is reception successfully done by Dipole or Yagi(Horizontal/vertical)
or need Circularly polarized antenna?
I am little bit confuse in APT and SSTV.
I think SSTV suitable for the beginning if Antenna is DIPOLE!!
Any suggestion will be much appreciated.
Regards
Adeel

Thanks Jim and others.
The MFJ code reader is not quite what I was looking for, but finally
found what I was looking for. I didn't quite explain myself properly
when I first made the querry. I was looking for a Morse Code
software, or hardware that replaced a computer keyboard. A company
Westest in Utah makes one. It is called Darci Usb. It was mainly
designed for nearly 100% handicaped folks with very limited physical
movement to be able to use standard Morse Code input to computer
replaceing the need for a standard keybboard. The unit is pricy at
$200 and is out of my buget at the time, but I may consider it in the
future. It can be programmed by the user, as far as timing, etc for
various cw speeds, etc.It is controlled by a series of 1 2 or 3
switches for creating the dots and dashes, and most other keyboard
commands, which can be controlled with most electronic keyers.
Here is one of the links to it in case anyone is interested, but this
link does not explain its inner workings, etc. There are other links
that explain more technically just how it works.
http://www.westest.com/darci/usbindex.html
Thanks again fellas for all the input.
Joe
Ps: one method of switching it used by complete handicapped, with no
arm or finger movement at all is a Sip and Puff switch. It is a tube
that one can put in ones mouth that has a very sensative micro switch
at the end of it and all the user does is sip or puff on the tube to
create the dot and dash command, etc. I may e-mail the company and ask
what kind of a switch can be used for the mentally handicapped, such
as ME! :-)))))))))

4. Animation related to Amateur Radio..

Hi All..
Besides Amateur Radio,Amateur Astronomy&Astrophotography, I also dabble
in creating animations. A year ago I was listeinig to a group on 80
mtrs that discuss technical topics, etc. They were having an arguement
& Discussion on Voltage and Current Baluns. It went on for a full 3
nites. So I decided to toss in my own 2 cents worth with this
animation. It brought the arguement to an end, and also got a few
chuckles, besides..

Ps: If you don't think a Balun will give you an OUCHY.. Think Twice!
