Ham since 1950, extra class, age 75, but an infant to MMSSTV. I have
read most of the applicable posts to this site regarding this
interface, and I'm sure some have long since lost patience with my
problem; however, it is quite new to me. I have a Kenwood TS-440S
correctly tied to my SignaLink USB. I say correctly, because I work
PSK31 regularly without a problem. In MMSSTV I have changed to the
device ID to "1" from "-1" as has been suggested, so it would
recognize the external soundcard. This has worked partially, because
with the ID set to "1" I can activate the PTT and enter the transmit
mode -- the PTT light on both the SignaLink USB and my tranceiver
activate, and power out is indicated. I cannot seem to receiver. I
found a spot on the internet that showed me what a typical receive
signal looks like, but I have yet to see it using my software. I have
gone into the two soundcard selections (input and output) under
options and have changed the soundcard from the computer built-in
Raaltek soundcard to the SignaLink USB soundcard, USB Audio Codec. It
will not stay selected, and reverts back to the Realtec?? I think
that is a large part of my problem, but do not know where to go from
here? I need your help! Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Thanks and 73,
Carl Sherman

Hello Carl and welcome to MMSSTV. You need nothing special to receive SSTV
signals, just a cable from the headphone output of your rig to the
'line in' on your sound card. Try this first before trying to TX.
You may have to improve the antenna a bit, but if you can hear the
signals you should be able to see the images, even if grainy.
Start here first and ask away!

Hello Ric,

Thanks for such a quick reply. I have done the direct connection that
you suggest on other digital progams and it does work. I guess I am
specifically addressing SignaLink USB owners and users, so that I can
work through that interface. The SignaLink soundcard doesn't have a
"line in," and the signal to the computer is a USB interface. I could
do the direct connect to my existing RealTec soundcard; however, that
is not what I am trying to accomplish. Does that make sense?

Hello Carl, Yes, that does make sense. I do not use a SignaLink
interface as I have a RIGBlaster. Not sure how your unit gets the
audio but many others may have used this type of unit. Good luck!

Hi.

I want thank those that gave me advice on using templets, etc. I have a
PSK quest, since I know most of you probably use PSK besides SSTV. Is
anyone aware of any type of software that would make feasable to use
and electronic keyer or a rig built in keyer to generate text rather
than using the keyboard. They keyer would have to be interfaced to the
computer sound board, or either compatable with the PSK software. Does
anyone know of such a software or system that can be used. I am an avid
cw user and it would sure be nice to use a keyer rather than fighting a
keyboard with mistakes, etc.

I hope I am not fighting a blank wall. Any input or ideas anyone!

Thanks

Hi. You might try and use CW using this program
http://www.dxsoft.com/en/products/cwtype/ . Claims to work with both a
paddle and a keyboard. I use a Vibroplex Brass Racer for all of my CW
work but never tried this program in that mode. Good luck!

Thanks a Million Ric..

I will give it a try and see if its compatable with the software, or
computer accepts it. I'm not much of a computer Guru with com ports,
etc, but will try to figure it out. It would sure be slick if it did work.
It would sure take all the work out of typing, expecially if one is a
bad typer like Me:-))

I will let you know the outcome if it works out. OK

Thanks again Ric

I think what he wants is a program that does CW to Text, that is generates
actual text as a keyboard would do? If not, there are many programs to
generate CW but I don't know what use they would be on SSTV?

Thanks Gil..

You hit the nail on the head. That is actually what I am looking
for.CW to Text. I am sure there in not any software that would do that.
It would be very complex software, because it would have to convert
sound to ASCI binary using the length and spaceing of cw characters, etc.
It could possibley be done by and experienced programmer or author of
one of the PSK software programs and incorporated into the PSK program
itself, or either directly into the sound card. I will keep looking
around the internet, and asking around. Something may pop up. If not,
I will just have to stick with the keyboard for now!:-((

Thanks Guys

Joe

It seems to me that sometimes things can be percieved as difficult or
over-complicated... (like pointing you to a site for the whole deal)
If you want to receive (rx only) sstv all you need to do is get the
 audio into your pc.
You have a phone jack/ext speaker from you receiver..?? just connect
it via a simple lead... mono or stereo, doesn't matter.
Plug it into your sound card... preferrably line in.. check your sound
inputs from the pc.. (this can be done via mmsstv program)....
You should be able to take it from here..... happy viewing!
