Hi Steve..

Well! I'm not new to Ham Radio, but am to SSTV. I don't operate much of it,
but do a little.
What you need to do it properly, is a interface between radio and soundcard
input on your computer.
There are many kits one can buy off internet, or you can make your own.
Most newer rigs have an accessory jack on the back of the rig where you can
tap into the audio out from the rig to the computer sound card input,
and also from computer line out to audio input on the rig.

I am lazy and haven't built up the wireing from computer to rig for transmitting
SSTV yet.
But I do use a down and dirty way to do it. It isn't recommended much,
but does work.
I transmit SSTV by holding my micorphone up to the Computers speaker.
But one does have to be carefull in using that method since it is very easy to
overload, and cause spurious emissions, etc. But it can be done, as I do it all
the time.
Using that method to transmit, you have to be very carefull and keep your ALC
down to a level where it shows no indication of ALC at all. And also, you have
to adjust your output power to no more than 40 watts,or so. When you transmit a
SSTV, or even PSK signal, you are actually trasnmitting the same as a full keydown
carrier, and these newer trasistorized rigs now days won't take full keydown
conditions very long.

But, buy holding your Mike up to the computer speaker will work, but you just
have to watch your ALC, and your transimtted power output in the 30 to 40 watt range.
This is the down and dirty way to do it but it does work! I have recieved very
good video reports by using this method.

Hope this helps..:-))
Joe

There are a bunch of 'em.
The cheapest and the one I use is the Buxcomm Rascal.
It plugs into the soundcard and either/or serial port or usb.
The only disadvantage on this one is if you plug it into the mic.
you have to unplug and plug up you voice mic.
I made a switch box out of an old rs232 switch that I use.
Most of the others whether from MFJ, Signal Link, or Rigblaster
have internal switching.
To find out more and pricing just type the band name into Google
and it should take you to the website.
Software MMSSTV of course for the beginner.
