2. FFT-TV Sends Video Clips and "Live" Video over HF

SSTV'ers might be interested in "FFT-TV", an NBTV soundcard mode developed by Con Wassilieff, ZL2AFP. FFT-TV sends and receives full-color, low-resolution video at frame rates up to 1 FPS, for playback up to 10 FPS. Available in seven versions (including two monochrome versions), the software can be downloaded from the websites given below. One of these versions is sure to meet your needs!

PERFORMANCE (example: CO49+AFC version):

Resolution: 36 lines, with higher effective resolution obtained by averaging (higher resolution, up to 96 lines, is available with other FFT-TV versions).

A 30-second, 300 frame AVI clip takes 5 minutes to transmit, with playback at 10 FPS (other FFT-TV versions are limited to lower transmitted frame rates).

Thirty frames of "live" video (from a webcam) take only 30 seconds to transmit, but the video will displayed with "jerky" motion due to the 1 FPS frame rate. However, the motion can be smoothed using frame interpolation software, giving 30 seconds of playback at 10 FPS. Smoothing is obtained by processing with programs such as AVI Constructor and MotionPerfect, converting the recorded "live" video to a smoothed AVI file (the frame interpolation feature is available only with the CO49+AFC version of FFT-TV).

HARDWARE REQUIREMENTS:

Same as for SSTV: HF transceiver, soundcard interface, and PC (Windows).
