Is this the same problem that you reported on the MultiPSK group?

If so, and if it is happening in two programs, then it suggests an 
interfacing problem.  Or, very weak signals maybe?

Or he's getting audio in via a microphone on his laptop rather than via the 
soundcard, or maybe the input level is way down (Elvis mode).
