Hi to all SSTV enthusiasts,
Last weekend I took part in the WSW SSTV contest. I thought I would work many
stations but this was not to be for two reasons.
1) Poor propagation and very little North - South Skip.
2) Too many European stations, passing 595 signals to each other.
I live in the coastal city of East London on the South East coast of South
Africa. That's a loooong, Looong way from most other SSTV operators
I saw many pictures on my screen when the band 14.230 opened up. That was only
between 14:00 - 16:00 Zulu. That short opening did not give me much
opportunity to get Two way QSO's and confirm a contact. The trouble with so
many operators on together was that as one picture came in on the screen the
next stronger one wiped it of and that took over and so it went one with the
next one to wipe me clean Hi.
These are the stations that I did have a swap of pictures both ways;
001 - JA6AP
002 - W5KI
003 - EA2AFL ( I saw many of his pictures )
004 - ZS2CH
005 - BV4QC (my old friend, Jenq a regular contact)
006 - DL6IP (The biggest signal on the band & and the biggest aerial hi)
007 - IZ5DKP
I did see one or two sending back to me and I did reply with a picture but did
not succeed in a two way.
I would like to know if anyone did see my pictures and did try to get back to
me, and I apologies for not being able to get back to you. I tried hard enough
believe me. I sat in the shack all day Saturday and Sunday waiting for the
band to open up.
I also tried 18 Mhz as that was open a little during the day but I did not
know what frequency to operate on ( does anyone know the SSTV frequency ?)
so I sent out a few signals up and down the band with no response. The other
HF bands were also dead even 40 Metres our local band, had no SSTV stations.
I am a member of the Belgium SSTV Club No.233 and was looking for other BCS
members pictures has we were trying to work All Members (not much chance of me
achieving that distinction down here in Sleepy Hollow).
I did see two members call signs on my screen 1) the manager Tony ON8GA and
2) An Italian station membership No. 009.
As I could not get back to them I can claim Zero contacts with our club
members. ( do I win the "BOOBY Prize" Hi.)
My operating conditions were as follows:
Kenwood TS 450SAT.
50 Watts (Flea power Hi) in to a Horizontal loop up at 10 Mtres, cut for 80
Metres.
I would be great if other SSTV fans reply as a Bulletin to this bull and we
can all see how the contest developed. I did see one station with nearly 50
contacts.
Best regards from Darkest Africa,
where Lions Walk the streets at night and some of them carry AK47's Hi.
ZS2ABF.
