You've lost me with the bit about Dune and Asimov. I have read Dune and
seen the film about 4 times (due to repeats) but I can't think of the
character.

As for missing parts. I once reread The Bicentennial man after seeing the
film. In the book the former robot's last words while lying all alone are
"little miss" but the film has to add a bit to give it a bit more, what I
believe is called 'schmalz'. A very good film.
I have seen two versions of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World and, even in
the first, B&W version, nobody was brave enough to show or even hint at
the garden scene in the first chapter. Still, not bad.

Nothing can compare with the way that Kubrick totally screwed up A
Clockwork Orange. I had read the book in 1962 and it made you hate
violence but the film did the complete opposite in 1971 at a time when the
greatest obscenity was violence.

I did finish watching the film of MASH after my last missive and realised
that Corporal Klinger isn't even in it.

As I said, I only ever saw a few episodes of the series, in fact I thought
that it had been repeated three times as it went on about three times as
long as the Korean war until someone told me otherwise and I watched the
very last episode where Alan Alda had gone grey.

The dying dentist and the song Suicide is painless struck me as one of the
funniest bits. I kept thinking what a shame it was that he could have just
prescribed himself Viagra but it wasn't invented 'til 1998, sad.

I got the feeling that someone had got at the film with the censor
scissors but it is a few years since I last saw it so I can't be sure; it
just seemed too short. If they ever do show the series over here, I will
watch it
I have nothing better to do nowadays.

Best of luck. Ian.
