Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) Status Report
April 19, 2010
1. Upcoming School Contacts
An Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact has been
scheduled for Jessup Elementary School in Houston, Texas on Monday, April 19
at 18:43 UTC. This will be a telebridge connection through ground station
WH6PN in Hawaii. The school has integrated the ARISS activity into the
school curriculum, specifically focusing on science, math, and language arts
instruction across the pre-kindergarten to the fourth grade level.
An Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) contact has been
scheduled for an IARU (International Amateur Radio Union) Region 1
Exhibition in European Parliament Brussels on Tuesday, April 27 at 12:53 UTC
via telebridge station LU1CGB in Argentina. Students have been invited to
visit the European Parliament for this special event.
2. ARISS - Poland School Contact Successful
On Monday, April 12, Expedition 22/23 astronaut Soichi Noguchi, KD5TVP
participated in an Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS)
contact with students attending Edward Abramowski Technical and
Comprehensive Schools Complex No. 3 in Katowice, Poland. The school
prepared for the contact by incorporating ARISS into lesson plans covering
Geography, Physics, IT and Electronics. Eleven questions were answered and
Noguchi expressed his condolences to the school on the death of their
president.
3. Astronaut Training Status
Astronauts Kevin Ford and Shane Kimbrough will receive an overview of the
Amateur Radio on the International Space Station (ARISS) program on Monday,
April 19. Both astronauts are scheduled to fly on future ISS expeditions.
