COMMENT: Solar activity has been at eruptive levels during the past 24
hours, featuring fourteen C flares from NOAA AR 11532, 11536, 11535,
11538 and 11528. The largest flare was a long duration C5.7 from NOAA AR
11535 peaking at 11:30 UT on July 31. It had an associated Type II radio
burst with estimated speed of 880 km/s along with a coronal mass
ejection seen off the East limb in SOHO/LASCO C2 imagery and is not
expected to be geoeffective. C-level flares are very probable within the
next 48 hours, with a chance for an M flare.
The geomagnetic field was at quiet levels (K Dourbes between 1 and 3;
NOAA Kp between 1 and 2) during the past 24 hours. Quiet (K Dourbes
smaller than 4) levels are expected for August 1, 2 and 3.
TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 084, BASED ON 15 STATIONS.
