COMMENT: ACE registered the passage of a magnetic plasma cloud from
late June 16. The north-south component of the interplanetary magnetic
field (IMF) turned from high positive values (+40nT) to low negative
values (-20nT). A major geomagnetic storm at the planetary and local
level occurred when the plasma cloud hit the magnetosphere: K and Kp
became 6. At the moment of writing, 12:40UT, the Bz component is again
positive. The geomagnetic conditions will normalize slowly to the
unsettled - quiet level. The proton flux storm level was reached in the
night between June 16 and 17. The proton flux > MeV is now decreasing.
A filament in the southern hemisphere, at the central meridian erupted
today, June 17. The filament started to rise around 7UT.
