COMMENT: Several C-class flares were observed in the last 24 hours. The
active regions NOAA AR 1460 (Catania 8) and NOAA AR 1459 (Catania 8) are
still growing and have potential for C-class flares and possibly also
M-class flare. Three partial halo CMEs observed on April 18 were all
back side events associated with the flares at E150 as seen from the
Earth, and they will not arrive at the Earth. The fluctuations of the
geomagnetic field and the extended periods of negative southward
magnetic field component Bz during last 48 hours were associated with
the increase of the solar wind speed (up to 470 km/s). The solar wind
speed decreased back to 350 km/s. We expect active geomagnetic
conditions in the coming hours due to the arrival of the partial halo
CME from April 15 and the glancing blow from the CME-driven shock wave
associated with the partial halo from April 16.
TODAY'S ESTIMATED ISN : 089, BASED ON 11 STATIONS.
